Biomimicry
~ A paper about the urgent need of the collaboration of designers and scientists to create sustainable design solutions.

I wrote my bachelor thesis on the topic of biomimicry and why designers and scientists must work together intensively using the principles of biomimicry to create sustainable design solutions. I was not familiar with the term before I came across the topic and I was fascinated by it. It is simply unbelievable what we can learn from nature if we just take a closer look.

“The people who design our world usually never took a biology class”
– Janine Benyus

The task of designers and scientists, especially biologists, in the „Desience Collaboration“ method is to apply Nature’s principles to human problems. The aim is to create sustainable design solutions for the long-term health of planet earth. The main problem is the lack of in-depth biological knowledge of the users of biomimicry. In practice, a designer already works interdisciplinary. He is not specialised in certain materials, techniques or industries. In the design process he makes the connections between objects, information flows, symbols, etc. to arrive at the most efficient solution. Biomimicry is now be-coming more and more involved in the design process and therefore more experts from Nature must come to the design table.
